The start

Our Little Family has gone through some big changes. All good changes, some leaning towards the side of awesome. My hopes is to share our journey, its ups and downs and even a few of the sideways. I felt a new blog was the place to start, with a little explanation of "why".

Simple questions with simple answers can help you change your life. Naturally. The real way. It will take real work. Motivation. Determination. Work. Yes, work! Nothing in life comes for “free”. Everything in life takes time and hard work. There is no such thing as an easy fix, at least not in my mind set. There are no justifications for the easy fix, only excuses. Yes again, excuses!
How many calories in a day does the human body burn, just doing the basic things including breathing, sitting in front of the TV or computer and the odd movement (maybe making a boxed dinner or sitting on the floor with your kids). Now, how many calories are you eating!?! A pound is 3500 calories. Yes, you have that right; you need to burn 3500 calories BEYOND what you eat in order to just lose a pound. Scary huh, but possible!
Now, how many calories do simple activities burn? People have this crazy assumption that doing something like the wii fit for an hour a day is going to cause weight gain. I’d love to ask them “what are you smoking?”. Did you know that running on the wii fit for 15min only burns 30 calories? 30!! That’s 120 calories an hour. That would mean you would have to jog for just over 29 HOURS to burn off ONE POUND. Seriously, do people honestly wonder why this doesn’t work? In an hour on the wii fit, with different activities, I can MAYBE burn 200-300 calories. MAYBE. That is with all advanced and high count activities on there. That would be a MINIMUM of 11.6 HOURS to burn off ONE POUND. I just can’t fathom how people still sit back and question why this isn’t working.
Another one that amuses me is walking. Seriously, walking?!? Walking for an hour straight, at a solid and steady pace (depending on your weight...I’m going to do a “heavier” person) burns 289 calories. That is 12.1hours of walking to burn a pound. Ya..half a day of walking.
Now, let’s look at some real exercises. Kickboxing ( J ). I burn an average of 600-700 calories in one kickboxing session. One. If I go 3x a week, that is 2100 calories, never mind any other type of exercise. If I am already eating under what my body burns in a day, that is a great 1-2lbs minimum a week. It’s called work. You have to have the drive. You need motivation, will and want. It isn’t easy. Nothing in life is supposed to be easy. It’s an adventure. Its learning to never turn down a great opportunity to better yourself. It is teaching my daughters how to achieve a healthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle is not all about being a specific weight. It isn’t about some quick fix to get yourself there. My daughters will know that if you want something, it wont be handed to you. You have to want it. You have to go for it. You have to fight for it, work for it. You are the master of your own success. A healthy lifestyle is daily exercise. A healthy lifestyle is whole eating (one wonderful thing we have learnt). A healthy lifestyle is structure and routine, time to yourself and time as a family. We are individuals, and we are also a unit. It just amazes me at the excuses that people make because they think this is too hard. There is no justification to taking the easy road, ever in life. There are only excuses. There are no excuses in this house, there is only reason.
Thanks Neil, and Thanks Laura, for being such amazing inspirations on my family and giving us the motivation we needed to make such a huge change. We all thank you so much. You are true role models!
